MITCHELL, SD - Pheasant Country once again participated in the Corn Palace Stampede Rodeo Chili Cook Off on Sunday, July 20.  Committee volunteers Al and Nancy Hyatt personally pressure cooked, deboned and froze pheasants for the delicious tasting chili.  Even though we didn’t win any prize this year, we were very popular as we were the first team out of 15 to run out of chili.  Al Hyatt said that “he knows of at least 12 people who came back for seconds and some even came back for thirds”.  We don’t know how many people were served, but the Pheasants Forever team made over 10 gallons of chili on site.

President Dave Allen was out at the rodeo grounds at 5:30 a.m. to select our camp site, and there were seven dedicated volunteers who helped during the day.   Thanks to Coborn’s for a discount on the ingredients needed and Porter Distributing for a discount on the beverages.  We also conducted two raffles drawn before the event concluded for a Savage 25-06 rifle and a one-half hog bundle with the proceeds going to the Chapter for use in youth and habitat programs.  Al said he thought our Chapter has been doing this for the past six years.  The volunteers had a fun time and at the same time were getting our Chapter known to the general public.
